c'est ne pas une pipe

inspired by one of my all-time favourite artists, rene magritte (ceci n'est pas une pipe), as well as the very talented hand-lettering illustrator sean mccabe, I made these. (pls excuse my french! I only realised that after drafting in pen ):)

Yellow Brick Road

Hey all!

This is my Yellow Brick Road font. Got the inspiration from the 1939 movie, "Wizard of Oz", where Judy Garland had to follow the yellow brick road to see the wizard for help.

PLAY DIDOT

Created this PLAY DIDOT thingie as part of a Typography Font Personality project. Task was to personify a font. So yeah. I dug out some significant characteristic of the font and made this magnetic thingie that allows you to play "dress-up" with the Didot head.

1. Beard+thinning hairline: The contrast between the thick and thinness of the font.
2. Eye: The font was used by CBS together with their logo for very long.
3. Golden hair: Elegant french modern font.

Pictures of the final work will be up. But not so soon. Meanwhile, enjoy the digital form of my work! (:

KWANLOONG BURST

Had to do a typography pictorial representation of a Singapore product. I picked KWAN LOONG MEDICATED OIL. What do you think?

Tissue

Few days ago, I had to make a series of fonts for my Typography class as an assignment. I decided to make use of tissue paper since the rubber shavings that I planned to use went missing. But seriously, thank God. They turned out better than expected.

Actually, I think they are awesome.


Font: Tissue
Bold function: -
Special Charecters: Limited to punctuations and no.s only.

Below is a pangram with a tinge of Singapore essence. It's part of the assignment, once again.
Pangram: A single sentence containing all the letters from A-Z, usually used to display fonts. An example would be the typical "a quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." .

DONGDONGCHIANG

A typography project in Year 2 Semester 2. Its about the Chinese Culture. Picked Chinese New Year Food (年菜) as my theme. Quite like it, personally. Heh! Took me a while to get the inspiration! Hurray to my prof who gave me the last minute wake up call!

Ever wondered how fonts you see around Chinatown in Singapore can be manipulated?
Well, I had a project last year and we had a task to change the fonts of Chinatown into something awesome and different. Most importantly, something graphic-y and typo-ish.

So there, my project. (:
It's called Emotional Trap.
Stifled by the society. Unable to express oneself. He/she can only keep the anguish and the blues to oneself. The two contrasting posters are split into 4 parts and joined together to form a big picture. I'll post the hung poster photo up soon.

Picture below is not the final outcome of the 4 separated parts. But, close enough. Heh!

Little A and the Autterfly

An animation based on the letter 'A'. 

Done during typography class in semester one, 08/09!

Tedious process of manually making 100-200 frames for this 1 min odd animation, cos I'm still learning Flash, lols. Enjoyed the whole process though, kinda fun through all that pain. Haha. What irony! Enjoy!
