c'est ne pas une pipe

inspired by one of my all-time favourite artists, rene magritte (ceci n'est pas une pipe), as well as the very talented hand-lettering illustrator sean mccabe, I made these. (pls excuse my french! I only realised that after drafting in pen ):)

I haven't been drawing much lately. If i ever do, they're really for clients or for people who matter very much to me.

Last fall, I did my best-b*tch's card before he left Singapore for good. I was utterly devastated and finished this piece within 12 hours before filling it up fully (to the brim) with thoughts/bitchings/last words before I see him again in France/loves and passing it to him before his flight.

Needless to say, he has this up on his wall. (:

This following number is something I did for my significant other for our anniversary. I chose a short quote from "The Wedding Date".

"I think I'd miss you even if we'd never met."

I really like this quote but thought I could have done better with the typography. oh wells! as long as he likes it, I'm good (:

CAMP CAMP CAMP!

It's been a while since I last posted. Tons of things have changed, i.e. I graduated, I started working and I changed jobs a few times. I'm finally settled in one job now. I'm quite happy and also because I'm bonded, I can't leave anytime soon. Lol.

Neeways, I've been working and playing with design and freelance, still. Enjoy this piece I did for a church camp! It's supposed to be a walking/roaming A2 poster.

Mr. K. Thali promotes BRANDS!

Hi! Ok. So here is an update!
Did these for my Illustration class in school. The whole point is to design a character to promote a certain brand in a certain country!

I chose India and the uniqueness of the Kathakali dance as my inspiration. I worked my way through the research I'd done and found the main (hero) character rather intriguing. Hence, I used the expression, the emotions and the gestures to bring out the essence of the dance, and also of India. Chose BRANDS, because I think it's an essential for everyone, especially those individuals out there who are overworked. So I designed this character encompassing all the pointers I'd listed previously and worked my way through. With the tag line, "Even the gods need the essence to dance.", I created this poster to show the energy one BRANDS essence could do.

On top of the poster, we were required to do a souvenir/promotional item for the product. Made a book with colourful pages. Will update with the picture of the book soon. But for now, here are the pictures of the book cover!

Did this on my way back to school on the MRT. No mouse, no wacom. Just the mousepad on my Mac and my fingers. See what an insane 2 hour journey train ride can make one do? =p
